In a move to enhance community services, Albay’s provincial government has announced a financial aid package totaling P72.1 million, aimed at supporting 721 barangays across the province. Acting Governor Glenda Ong-Bongao revealed in a recent interview that each barangay will receive P100,000 to improve the delivery of essential government services directly to residents.
Governor Bongao emphasized that the funds are designated to support a range of initiatives, including the preservation of local culture, health and safety programs, protection of residents’ rights, and the advancement of scientific and technological skills. Additionally, the money can be used to promote full employment, maintain peace and order, and enhance the overall comfort and convenience of the community through better basic services.
The distribution of the funds will be spread across the province, with 198 barangays in the 1st District, 223 in the 2nd District, and 300 in the 3rd District receiving support. The allocation of these subsidies will adhere to strict budgeting, accounting, and auditing standards, as stated by the acting governor.
The financial support originates from the Aid to Barangays Program, managed by the Office of the Governor, and is part of the approved Project Procurement Management Plan. Board Member Hisham Ismail, who also serves as the president of the Liga ng mga Barangay Albay Chapter, expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting that it will greatly benefit the local communities. He highlighted the streamlined process that makes the funds more accessible by eliminating unnecessary requirements.
