Senators Urge Quick Approval of Motorcycle Taxi Legislation

·

MANILA – Senators Raffy Tulfo and Grace Poe have made a strong call for the immediate passage of the Motorcycle Taxi Law, aimed at legalizing and regulating motorcycles used for public transport. This appeal was made during a press conference on Tuesday, where Tulfo committed to fast-tracking the bill, which has been stalled for over five years.

Tulfo expressed his determination, stating, ‘I will do everything this time because it has been pending for so many years, five years. Hopefully, we can achieve this within the 19th Congress,’ emphasizing the urgency to meet the needs of both riders and commuters.

Grace Poe, who previously led the Senate Public Services Committee and now heads the Senate Finance Committee, echoed Tulfo’s sentiments, describing the bill as long overdue. ‘The motorcycle-for-hire bill has faced numerous delays. We are ready to move forward and implement our years of effort,’ she remarked, stressing the importance of formalizing the motorcycle taxi sector.

Poe highlighted the benefits of legalizing motorcycle taxis, noting that it would elevate riders to professional status with access to income and welfare benefits. ‘It’s not just necessary; it’s crucial to regulate this fast-growing industry,’ she added.

Both senators encouraged their fellow lawmakers to prioritize the legislation, aiming to establish a robust and adaptable system for motorcycle-for-hire services, enhancing public transportation options.
