NAIA Expressway Boosts Speed Limit to 80 kph Effective January 15

·

The speed limit on the NAIA Expressway (NAIAx) is set to increase from 60 to 80 kilometers per hour starting January 15, as announced by San Miguel Corporation (SMC). Ramon Ang, SMC’s chairman and CEO, emphasized that this decision was made after thorough analysis to enhance the driving experience while ensuring safety remains a priority. The NAIAx serves as a vital link between the Skyway system and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s Terminals 1, 2, and 3. This adjustment is expected to reduce congestion, especially with the ongoing modifications to the exit plazas at NAIAx. Additionally, the same speed limit of 80 kph will be applied to the straight sections of Skyway Stage 3 starting January 20. However, to maintain safety, the speed limit on curved sections of both expressways will remain at 60 kph. Ang explained that this measure is crucial to prevent accidents caused by misjudgment or oversteering on sharp curves, which are a result of design limitations and right-of-way issues during construction. SMC noted that these issues necessitated redesigns of certain sections and access ramps. To enforce these speed limits, traffic patrollers with radar speed guns will continue to monitor and penalize violators.
