Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has declared that the upcoming Dinagyang Festival in 2025 will be devoid of political influences, emphasizing the event’s purpose as a celebration of faith and unity. During a press conference on January 14, 2025, Treñas announced that the city’s main thoroughfares and festival venues will be free from political advertisements. He highlighted the removal of political tarpaulins, including those of his children and a senatorial candidate, from a private property near the provincial capitol during the festival’s opening.
Treñas expressed his desire for a more vibrant Dinagyang, ensuring the entire city remains free of political banners. The city has extended invitations to notable figures such as President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, Vice President Sara Duterte, Senate President Francis Escudero, Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, members of the diplomatic corps, and local officials. Should any of these dignitaries attend, they will be given the opportunity to deliver a brief message.
Despite the festival’s apolitical stance, Treñas noted that political rallies can be held in district plazas and other areas outside the city, provided the organizers obtain the necessary permits. He reiterated that Dinagyang is fundamentally a celebration of religious belief and unity, not a platform for political statements or rallies. The festival’s main events are scheduled for January 24-26, 2025.
