In a robust push to protect its citizens from influenza, Iloilo City has successfully vaccinated over 78,538 individuals as of January 13, 2025. The City Health Office (CHO) is now urging more residents to take advantage of the free flu shots before the campaign ends on January 24, 2025. Dr. Annabelle Tang, head of the CHO, revealed that the city received 144,000 doses from the Department of Health, starting the vaccination drive on November 22, 2024. The initiative has reached out to various sectors, including 10 schools and multiple government offices. To maximize coverage, the CHO has set up fixed vaccination sites, conducted door-to-door vaccinations, and utilized a mobile team to visit stores and large establishments. The focus has been on senior citizens and children aged 10 and above. With surplus vaccines, Mayor Jerry Treñas announced that the city is willing to share doses with other local government units, having already supplied vaccines to Antique province. The CHO’s efforts have extended beyond district health units, reaching uniformed personnel, hospitals, other health facilities, schools, and the Iloilo City Action and Resilience Center.
