In a significant move to bolster disaster resilience, Davao de Oro’s provincial government has entered into a strategic partnership with Davao de Oro State College (DDOSC). The collaboration was formalized through a memorandum of agreement signed at the provincial capitol in Nabunturan on January 13, 2025, under the leadership of Governor Dorothy Gonzaga.
The core of this partnership is a research initiative named ‘Disaster Risk Reduction Awareness and Preparedness among the Residents in Davao de Oro: Basis for Extension Program.’ This project aims to enhance the community’s understanding and readiness for disasters while intertwining these efforts with agricultural advancements. The initial phase of the project will be rolled out in Barangay Tandawan, New Bataan.
Governor Gonzaga highlighted the critical role of such collaborations in fostering resilient communities. She stated, ‘The province is more than capable of building a more resilient and prepared community through collaboration and agricultural innovation.’ She further noted that this initiative aligns with broader provincial objectives, including contributions to global climate action, sustainable development, and gender equality.
The partnership between the provincial government and DDOSC is set to empower the residents of Davao de Oro by translating research into practical strategies that merge disaster preparedness with agricultural growth.
