In a significant crackdown on international crime, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Manila has apprehended a 38-year-old Chinese national, Huang Sen, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). Huang, identified as the head of a major gambling syndicate’s betting department, was detained after his name triggered an alert in the BI’s Interpol system. Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado announced that Huang, wanted by Chinese authorities for running illegal online gambling operations, will be deported and barred from re-entering the Philippines. The arrest followed a red notice issued by Interpol Beijing last December at the behest of the Chinese government. Huang is currently held in a BI detention facility in Taguig City, awaiting his deportation. The case against him originated from a warrant issued by the Luojiang district’s public security bureau in Deyang, China, last August, accusing him of orchestrating a vast network of illegal gambling sites that attracted over a million Chinese customers. The syndicate, which reportedly employed over 70,000 people, is believed to have facilitated gambling transactions amounting to over 700 billion yuan, generating profits exceeding 2 billion yuan.
