Police in Central Visayas Call for Public Cooperation at Election Checkpoints

·

In Cebu City, law enforcement officials from Central Visayas are appealing to the public for full cooperation at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoints, which were set up on Sunday to enforce a nationwide gun ban in preparation for the 2025 midterm elections. Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, the director of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas, emphasized the necessity of following checkpoint procedures to ensure smooth travel and enhance community safety. Maranan expressed the goal of having no gun-related incidents during the elections, stating readiness for safe, secure, and orderly national and local elections in 2025. These checkpoints, operated by members of the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and other law enforcement agencies, aim to strictly enforce the gun ban. While law enforcement officers are allowed to carry firearms during their duties, private citizens are barred from doing so, even if they possess a valid permit to carry firearms outside their residence (PTCFOR), unless they receive an exemption from Comelec.
