In a series of enforcement actions, the Pangasinan police have apprehended four individuals for breaching the election gun ban that commenced on Sunday. The arrests were made in various locations across the province, highlighting the police’s commitment to maintaining order during the election period.

The first arrest occurred in San Carlos City, where a 38-year-old man was detained after being found with a .38 caliber firearm during a domestic dispute with his wife, exacerbated by his intoxication. In Pozzorrubio, two 34-year-olds were caught during a drug sting operation at around 1:20 a.m. on Monday, yielding not only firearms but also 2.5 grams of suspected shabu valued at PHP17,000.

Another incident unfolded in Balungao town, where a 22-year-old from Rosales was involved in a motorcycle accident at approximately 1:40 a.m. on Monday. The young man, who had a minor as a passenger, was found carrying a revolver in his sling bag, which was discovered due to a faulty zipper. Subsequent medical tests confirmed his alcohol consumption.

Pangasinan Police Provincial Office Director Col. Rollyfer Capoquian, who was seen leading a Commission on Elections checkpoint in Dagupan City, emphasized the importance of public cooperation during these operations. He assured residents that the police actions are in line with legal provisions and stressed the importance of respecting human rights during these enforcement activities.

The gun ban, effective until June 11, suspends all permits to carry and possess firearms outside of residences, with exceptions only for those granted by the Commission on Elections or automatically exempted government officials.
