Malacañang has thrown its support behind the Iglesia Ni Cristo’s (INC) peace rally taking place across the nation, highlighting the importance of the right to peaceful assembly as enshrined in the constitution. Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin expressed confidence that the gatherings would be peaceful and significant, contributing to the national discourse on pressing issues. He emphasized the hope that the expressed opinions would shed light on the challenges facing the country and foster the unity that the nation seeks. Bersamin also viewed the rally as an opportunity for constructive dialogue that could steer the country towards enduring unity and advancement. The government has taken steps to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the event, with all agencies ready to assist in maintaining peace, managing traffic, and providing emergency services. In preparation for the large turnout expected at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila, where between 500,000 to 1 million participants are anticipated, the Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has escalated its alert status to ‘red’. Work in government offices and classes in Manila and Pasay have been suspended to accommodate the rally. Similar INC-led events are scheduled to occur simultaneously in various cities throughout the Philippines.
