DOJ Reviews NBI Report on VP Sara Duterte’s Alleged Assassination Threats

·

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is currently examining a report from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) concerning allegations that Vice President Sara Duterte threatened to assassinate President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon announced during a press briefing at the Palace that the DOJ is scrutinizing the evidence provided by the NBI to determine if further investigation is warranted. Fadullon explained that the DOJ’s review could lead to a recommendation to file charges or to send the case back to the NBI for additional evidence gathering. He emphasized the collaborative effort between the NBI and DOJ in evaluating the current evidence. Justice Undersecretary Raul Vasquez noted that should the review find enough evidence, a preliminary investigation would be initiated. The controversy stems from a heated online briefing last November where Duterte claimed she had arranged for the assassination of President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez in retaliation for an alleged plot against her life.
