Trilateral Call Between Marcos, Biden, and Ishiba Rescheduled for January 13

·

The scheduled trilateral phone conversation involving Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., US President Joe Biden, and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has been rescheduled to the morning of January 13, Manila time, as announced by Malacañang. Originally planned for the previous day, the delay was attributed to wildfires occurring in Los Angeles, according to Presidential Communications Secretary Cesar Chavez. The focus of the upcoming virtual summit will be on the advancement of trilateral cooperation among the nations. Last year, the leaders convened in Washington for a significant trilateral meeting, where they addressed a wide array of topics, including security collaboration, infrastructure projects, and economic resilience in the region. Additionally, in December, the three countries participated in a joint maritime exercise to underscore their commitment to protecting international waters and promoting free navigation in the Indo-Pacific, amid escalating tensions in the South China Sea.
