In preparation for the Iglesia ni Cristo’s National Rally for Peace, Iloilo City has announced the suspension of in-person classes across all educational levels on Monday. The rally, set to take place at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand, is expected to draw approximately 30,000 attendees from Panay Island. Mayor Jerry Treñas has directed city agencies to coordinate closely with the event organizers to ensure smooth proceedings. In response to the anticipated large gathering, the mayor has mandated a shift to modular learning for the day. Executive Order No. 005-A, which modifies a previous order, also recommends that government and private sector offices consider operating with minimal staff. The rally is scheduled to last from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with participants arriving from various parts of the region, including significant numbers from Antique, Iloilo North, Aklan, Capiz, and Iloilo South. To accommodate the event, the city council has approved the temporary closure of Muelle Loney Street from early morning. The Police Regional Office in Western Visayas has confirmed adequate personnel deployment to secure the rally, with no reported threats of disruption. The public is encouraged to stay alert and report any security concerns to the authorities.
