MANILA – A labor attaché announced on Saturday that there are still approximately 3,000 job vacancies in Taiwan for Filipinos, particularly in the semiconductor and artificial intelligence sectors. This announcement was made during a news forum in Quezon City by Cesar Chavez Jr., the Labor Attaché and Director of the Migrant Workers Office in Taipei. Chavez revealed that Taiwan had issued around 15,000 job orders for Filipinos in 2024 alone.
To meet these demands, the Philippine government has been actively organizing job fairs across various regions including Quezon City, Ilocos Region, Bulacan, and Cabanatuan City. These efforts are aimed at curbing illegal recruitment and human trafficking. Chavez encouraged interested Filipinos to visit the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) website for more information on these opportunities.
Chavez also mentioned that the DMW is seeking an exemption from the Commission on Elections for government-organized job fairs during the 2025 election spending ban. He emphasized the importance of these job fairs, stating that halting them would deprive many Filipinos of employment opportunities both locally and overseas. An exemption would allow for continuous job fairs, helping to meet the pending job quotas and orders.
Currently, over 160,000 Filipinos are employed in Taiwan, with the majority engaged in the AI and semiconductor industries, while a smaller number work in Taiwanese households.
