In a heartfelt appeal at the Vin d’Honneur event held at Malacañang Palace, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sought the backing of the diplomatic community for the Philippines’ candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2027-2028 term. Marcos emphasized the nation’s longstanding commitment to peacekeeping and multilateralism, citing the deployment of over 14,000 Filipino troops in 21 UN missions over the past six decades as a testament to this dedication.
The President articulated that the Philippines’ bid is rooted in a desire to enhance global cooperation and reform the UNSC and General Assembly. He expressed hope that the countries represented by the diplomats would support the Philippines’ efforts when it comes time to vote. Marcos also acknowledged the diplomatic corps’ role in supporting various Philippine social and economic initiatives, thanking them for their partnership.
