Manila will see the closure of nine roads around Quirino Grandstand in Luneta on January 13 to accommodate the Iglesia Ni Cristo’s ‘National Rally for Peace.’ The city has announced that these roads will be inaccessible to traffic starting at 4 a.m. The affected roads include Katigbak Drive, South Drive, Independence Road, sections of Roxas Boulevard, Bonifacio Drive, P. Burgos Avenue, Ma. Orosa Street, Finance Road, Gen. Luna Roundtable, and Kalaw Avenue. The city has also outlined alternative routes for motorists to navigate around the closures. For instance, vehicles from the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard and nearby streets should turn right onto UN Avenue to reach their destinations. Additionally, specific rerouting instructions have been provided for trucks and trailers, as well as for vehicles from various bridges and streets. Attendees of the rally can park in designated areas along Roxas Boulevard and Mel Lopez Boulevard. In response to the event, Malacañang has declared a suspension of work in government offices and classes in Manila and Pasay City. Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna has left the decision to suspend work to private-sector employers.
