Manila to Close Nine Roads for Iglesia Ni Cristo Peace Rally on Monday

·

Manila will see the closure of nine roads around the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta on January 13 to accommodate the Iglesia Ni Cristo’s ‘National Rally for Peace.’ The city has announced that these roads will be inaccessible to traffic starting at 4 a.m. on Monday. The affected roads include Katigbak Drive, South Drive, Independence Road, sections of Roxas Boulevard, Bonifacio Drive, P. Burgos Avenue, Ma. Orosa Street, Finance Road, Gen. Luna Roundtable, and Kalaw Avenue.

To manage traffic flow, the city has outlined several rerouting options. Vehicles from the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard, A. Mabini Street, and Ma. Orosa Street heading towards Kalaw Avenue are advised to turn right onto UN Avenue. Trucks and trailers on Osmeña Highway heading north to Mel Lopez Boulevard should turn right onto Pres. Quirino Avenue and proceed to Mabini Bridge. Vehicles from Ayala Boulevard aiming for Finance Road should turn left onto Taft Avenue. Those from Jones, Mac Arthur, and Quezon Bridges intending to use P. Burgos Avenue should take Lagusnilad to Taft Avenue. Vehicles from Sta. Lucia Street to Muralla Street should continue straight to Muralla Street instead of using the Gen. Luna Roundtable. Vehicles from Mel Lopez Boulevard heading to Bonifacio Drive should take Anda Circle and turn right onto Soriano Avenue. Lastly, trailer trucks and heavy vehicles from Mel Lopez Boulevard to Roxas Boulevard should turn left onto Capulong Street, proceed to Yuseco Street, and then to Lacson Avenue.

For attendees of the rally, parking will be available on two lanes on the inner side of Roxas Boulevard from UN Avenue to P. Ocampo Street, and two lanes on the inner side of Mel Lopez Boulevard from Anda Circle to the NLEX Connector City limit.

In response to the event, Malacañang has declared a suspension of work in government offices and classes in Manila and Pasay City. Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna has left the decision to suspend work in private offices to the discretion of the employers.
