BRP Teresa Magbanua Stands Guard Against Illegal Chinese Coast Guard Activities in Zambales

The Philippine Coast Guard’s vessel, BRP Teresa Magbanua, continues its vigilant watch off the coast of Zambales to counter the unauthorized operations of the China Coast Guard (CCG). According to Commodore Jay Tarriela, the spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, a CCG ship identified as ‘3304’ was found operating illegally 70 to 80 nautical miles from the Zambales coast. The persistent presence of the BRP Teresa Magbanua aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s strategy to prevent the CCG from normalizing and legitimizing their unlawful actions, which could lead to claims of sovereignty over Philippine waters. Commodore Tarriela emphasized that the ship’s deployment is crucial in ensuring that Filipino fishermen can work safely, free from harassment or intimidation. The PCG’s commitment to monitoring and maintaining a visible presence is aimed at deterring illegal activities by the Chinese Coast Guard, all while adhering to principles of restraint and non-provocation. Earlier in the week, the PCG observed another CCG vessel, ‘3103’, moving towards Zambales to take over from the ‘monster ship’ CCG-5901, which had intruded into Philippine waters for five days. Subsequently, vessel ‘3304’ replaced ‘3103’ in the area.
