Quezon City Ramps Up ‘Oplan Baklas’ Campaign, Calls for Candidate Compliance

·

Quezon City has escalated its ‘Oplan Baklas’ initiative in preparation for the upcoming May elections, focusing on the removal of campaign materials from unauthorized locations. On January 10, 2025, teams from the city’s Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) and Traffic and Transport Management Department (TTMD) were active in areas such as CP Garcia, Katipunan Avenue, Xavierville, East Avenue, Tomas Morato, Kamuning, Timog, Anonas, and E. Rodriguez, dismantling improperly placed campaign materials. The city government has appealed to all candidates and their supporters to adhere to proper conduct as the election period approaches. According to City Ordinance No. SP-2021 S-2010, it is illegal to place streamers, stickers, decals, pamphlets, tin plates, cardboards, tarpaulins, printed notices, signboards, billboards, political propaganda, and other advertising materials in unauthorized areas, which include Meralco utility poles, public equipment, street signs, traffic lights, signal posts, bridges, and overpasses. The Quezon City government has encouraged the voluntary removal of such materials to avoid penalties, with the DPOS set to continue unannounced operations to keep public spaces clear. Residents are urged to report any violations to the QC Helpline 122.
