In response to relentless downpours, the provincial government of Northern Samar has issued a stern warning to its residents and local authorities to brace for potential flooding and landslides. The alert was raised after a red rainfall warning was announced early Friday morning, signaling the expectation of heavy, continuous rain that could lead to hazardous conditions across the region.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) has urged everyone to stay vigilant and follow evacuation orders if necessary, emphasizing the importance of safety. Communities along the Catarman, Bugko, Pambujan, Catubig, Palapag, Mano, and Gamay Rivers are particularly advised to keep a close watch on rising water levels.
Governor Edwin Ongchuan took decisive action by suspending all classes throughout Northern Samar and halting operations at the Provincial Capitol due to reported flooding in various parts of the province. Additionally, mayors from Catarman, Mondragon, Laoang, Lope de Vega, Pambujan, and San Jose have also ordered the closure of government offices in their respective towns.
The intense rainfall, attributed to a shear line, is not only affecting Northern Samar but also some areas in Eastern Samar, prompting widespread concern and preparation for possible emergencies.
