The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has outlined significant traffic management plans in response to the upcoming Metro Manila Subway construction and the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) peace rally. MMDA Chairman Don Artes announced that a section of Mindanao Avenue leading to Tandang Sora will be shut down starting Sunday midnight to facilitate the construction of the Tandang Sora Station Box, which is projected to continue until 2028. This closure will necessitate traffic rerouting in both directions by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
In addition to the subway project, the INC’s ‘National Rally for Peace’ is scheduled for Monday at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila, expecting to draw around one million attendees from across the Philippines. To manage the influx of participants, the MMDA plans to deploy approximately 1,300 personnel and enforce a no day-off, no-absent policy starting Sunday evening.
Several roads will be closed to traffic starting at 4 a.m. on Monday, including Katigbak Drive, South Drive, sections of Roxas Boulevard, TM Kalaw, Bonifacio Drive, P. Burgos, and Maria Orosa Street. Artes suggested alternative routes for northbound vehicles, recommending a right turn onto Quirino Avenue or U.N. Avenue, followed by a left onto Taft Avenue.
For trucks heading to North Harbor from the South Luzon Expressway, a route via Osmeña Highway, Quirino Avenue, Nagtahan Street, Lacson Avenue, Yuseco Street, Capulong Street, and R-10 Road was advised. Trucks from Parañaque should follow a similar path, turning right at Quirino Avenue to reach their destinations. Southbound trucks are encouraged to use the same route.
Artes also warned that one-lane street parking will be strictly enforced during the event, with violators facing fines and vehicle towing. Emergency lanes will be designated on Katigbak and South Drive to ensure swift passage for emergency vehicles.
