·

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a summons to the owner of a taxi that burst into flames on EDSA in Barangay Santo Cristo, Quezon City. The incident occurred on Wednesday, prompting immediate action from the LTO. Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II, the LTO Chief, stated that a show cause order was sent to the registered owner and the driver of the taxi, identified by the plate number ABE 2064, to address concerns about the vehicle’s roadworthiness which may have contributed to the fire. Mendoza emphasized the importance of regular maintenance for vehicles used in public transportation, and an investigation into the matter has been launched. The owner and driver are required to appear at the LTO Central Office on January 27, accompanied by a notarized affidavit detailing the incident. This affidavit must explain why they should not face administrative penalties for failing to ensure the taxi was safe for operation. Mendoza highlighted the danger posed to both the driver and passengers, underscoring the severity of the situation.
