In preparation for the upcoming 2025 Dinagyang Festival, the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has ramped up its efforts to combat drug trafficking. ICPO Director Col. Kim Legada announced that they are on high alert for potential drug smuggling attempts during the festival, set to take place from January 24 to 26. Over the past few days, the police have conducted 13 operations, seizing nearly half a kilogram of suspected shabu.
In a recent operation on Thursday, the City Drug Enforcement Unit confiscated approximately 200 grams of suspected shabu, valued at PHP1.36 million, and apprehended two significant suspects in Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao District. Col. Legada emphasized the notorious nature of Bakhaw, which has become a focal point for their anti-drug efforts. He also noted that many of the suspects are new to the drug scene, while some previously involved individuals have returned to the trade after plea bargaining.
Mayor Jerry Treñas praised the police’s efforts, highlighting their dedication to keeping Iloilo City safe from the harmful effects of illegal drugs. He urged the ICPO to further intensify their campaign and vigilantly monitor and prevent drug entry into the city as the festival approaches.
