Government Work and Classes Suspended in Manila and Pasay for Iglesia ni Cristo Rally

·

The Philippine government has declared a suspension of government work and classes at all levels in Manila and Pasay on January 13, 2025, to accommodate the Iglesia ni Cristo’s National Rally for Peace at the Quirino Grandstand. The decision, detailed in Memorandum Circular No. 76 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, is in response to the expected attendance of approximately one million participants from across the nation, as reported by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). The rally aims to show support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s position against the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte, who faces three impeachment complaints in the House of Representatives on charges including constitutional violations and corruption. Essential services such as health, disaster response, and other vital functions will continue to operate during the suspension. Private sector work suspension is at the discretion of company heads. The MMDA plans to deploy 1,300 personnel to manage traffic and ensure safety. The Senate, Supreme Court, and Court of Appeals will also suspend operations, though skeleton crews will remain active in critical areas. Senate sessions are set to resume on January 14 at 3:00 p.m.
