Two Weather Systems Set to Bring Rain Across the Philippines

·

MANILA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced on Thursday that the shear line and the northeast monsoon, known locally as ‘amihan,’ are expected to cause widespread rainfall throughout the country. The shear line will lead to scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms in the Visayas, Bicol Region, Mimaropa, Quezon, and Dinagat Islands. Heavy to intense rainfall is predicted for Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Northern Samar. Moderate to heavy rains are expected in Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Masbate, Romblon, Aklan, Capiz, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, and Leyte. The ‘amihan’ will bring rain to Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Central Luzon. PAGASA warned that these areas could experience flash floods or landslides due to the moderate to heavy rainfall. Additionally, the northeast monsoon will cause isolated light rains in other parts of Luzon, while the rest of Mindanao will see isolated rain showers from localized thunderstorms. Moderate to strong winds and rough coastal waters are anticipated in the northern and eastern sections of Luzon and Visayas, with lighter winds and calmer seas elsewhere. PAGASA reported no low-pressure areas that could develop into tropical cyclones.
