Philippine Army Enhances Territorial Defense with Advanced Military Equipment

·

The Philippine Army is set to strengthen its territorial defense capabilities through the acquisition of modern military equipment. This initiative was highlighted by PA spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala, who detailed the Army’s plans to procure long-range artillery, advanced armored vehicles, and infantry equipment. These acquisitions are part of a broader effort to enhance the Army’s operational capacity.

In addition to conventional weaponry, the Army is also looking to acquire multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) protection equipment. These systems are crucial for responding to diverse threats. Furthermore, air defense systems are under consideration to safeguard PA units from aerial threats.

During a recent PA-wide Command Conference at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig, Army commander Lt. Gen. Roy Galido emphasized the need for sustained modernization and transformation. This directive aligns with the military’s shift from internal security to territorial defense operations, a strategic pivot announced by the Department of National Defense last year under the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept (CADC).

Galido reiterated the Army’s commitment to the AFP Campaign Plan ‘Tatag Kapuluan’, which focuses on modernizing the Army’s capabilities and equipment. He stressed the importance of preparing personnel and enhancing their skills to ensure the country’s security as the Army transitions to its new role in territorial defense.
