More Than 500 Devotees Receive Medical Assistance During Jesus Nazareno Feast

During the Feast of Jesus Nazareno on Thursday, January 9, 2025, a significant number of devotees required medical attention. The event, which included the Misa Mayor and the Traslacion procession at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila, saw 526 participants seeking medical help by 4 p.m. The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) was on hand to assist, treating 223 individuals for vital signs monitoring. Additionally, 267 devotees suffered from minor injuries such as abrasions, punctures, burns, lacerations, open wounds, ingrown nail pain, detached nails, contusions, sprains, and sore throats. More serious conditions reported included difficulty breathing, chest pain, neck pain, hyperventilation, headaches, high blood pressure, dizziness, avulsions, and hyperacidity. Eight devotees experienced major injuries, including dizziness with blurry vision, nausea, body weakness, and breathing difficulties. These patients were transported to various medical facilities, including the PRC Emergency Field Hospital, Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center, Tondo Medical Center, the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital, and the Philippine Orthopedic Center. Symptoms among those transported included nausea, chest pain, deviated noses, dislocated shoulders, nosebleeds, ankle pain, difficulty breathing, chills, and back pain. The PRC also provided welfare assistance to 115 individuals, offering psychosocial first aid, contact tracing, referrals, and free calls. The organization had deployed 18 first aid stations, 18 welfare desks, one emergency field hospital, 20 ambulances, and over 1,000 volunteers to manage the event’s medical needs.
