Cagayan de Oro Pledges Aid to Family of Murdered OFW

·

In a heartfelt gesture of solidarity, Cagayan de Oro’s Mayor Rolando Uy met with the bereaved family of Daphne Nacalaban, a 35-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was tragically found dead in Kuwait. The meeting took place on January 8, 2025, where Mayor Uy promised full support to the family, including free transportation to Zamboanga del Sur for the funeral arrangements. Nacalaban’s remains are set to be laid to rest in Molave, where her partner and teenage child reside. Originally from Barangay Dansolihon in Cagayan de Oro, Nacalaban had been working in Kuwait since December 2019. Her body was discovered buried in her employer’s garden in Saad Al-Abdullah, Jahra, after she was reported missing in October 2024. The repatriation process is being facilitated by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW). In response to this tragedy, Representative Rufus Rodriguez introduced House Resolution 2151, urging these agencies to thoroughly investigate Nacalaban’s death. Rodriguez highlighted the perilous conditions faced by OFWs, particularly those in domestic service, underscoring the need for greater protection and support for these workers.
