A recent survey conducted by Social Weather Stations (SWS) from December 12 to 18, 2024, and commissioned by Stratbase Consultancy, indicates that 41% of Filipinos are in favor of impeaching Vice President Sara Duterte. The survey also found that 35% of respondents are against her removal, while 19% remain undecided. The push for impeachment stems from three complaints lodged against Duterte at the House of Representatives, primarily concerning the alleged misuse of confidential funds by her office. The highest support for impeachment was observed in Balance Luzon, with 50% of respondents backing the move. In contrast, Mindanao, a region traditionally supportive of the Duterte family, showed the strongest opposition with 56% against the impeachment and only 22% in favor, with 18% undecided. In the Visayas, 40% supported the impeachment, 33% opposed it, and 24% were undecided. Socioeconomic analysis revealed that support for Duterte’s impeachment was highest among Classes A, B, and C at 50%, while it was lowest among Class E at 37%. The primary reason cited for supporting impeachment was the unexplained spending of confidential and intelligence funds during Duterte’s time as Education Secretary, with 46% of respondents highlighting this issue. Additionally, 36% pointed to Duterte’s refusal to address investigations into the use of these funds, and 24% mentioned alleged threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The survey involved 2,160 respondents nationwide and had a margin of error of ±2%.
