Persistent Rainfall Expected Across Philippines Due to Shear Line and Northeast Monsoon

·

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has forecasted ongoing rain across various regions of the Philippines, influenced by the shear line and the northeast monsoon, known locally as ‘amihan’. According to their 5 a.m. bulletin, areas such as Visayas, Bicol Region, Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, and Dinagat Islands are expected to see cloudy conditions with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line. PAGASA highlighted that moderate to heavy rainfall is anticipated in specific provinces including Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, and Southern Leyte. There is a risk of localized flooding in urban, low-lying, or river-adjacent areas, and landslides could occur in susceptible regions. The northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies and rain to Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Central Luzon. Meanwhile, Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, and the rest of Calabarzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated light rains. Other parts of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized weather phenomena. Additionally, rough coastal waters are expected in the northern and eastern sections of Luzon due to strong northeast winds, while the eastern section of Visayas will face moderate to rough seas from moderate to strong northeast winds.
