FDA Issues Alert on Mercury-Contaminated Skin Lightening Products

·

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has raised alarms about the dangers of using unauthorized skin lightening products that contain high levels of mercury. The agency specifically highlighted the product ‘Lady Gold Super Gluta Brightening’ among others, which are being sold without the necessary product notification certificates. The FDA’s action follows reports from the EcoWaste Coalition, which praised the agency’s prompt response to the issue of cosmetics containing mercury levels well above the permissible limit of 1 part per million (ppm). Other products flagged include Q-nic Care Whitening Night Cream and Q-nic Care Whitening Underarm Cream, with mercury levels reaching 4,113 ppm and 6,109 ppm respectively. Additionally, Meyyong Ra Seaweed Super Whitening Set and Lady Gold Super Gluta Brightening were found to have mercury concentrations of 3,784 ppm and a staggering 44,450 ppm. Although Malaysia Erna Whitening Cream tested negative for mercury, it remains unauthorized. The FDA has called on consumers to check product registrations and report any unauthorized products, while also warning distributors against selling these banned items.
