Urgent Call for Volunteers to Aid in Food Pack Preparation Amid Mt. Kanlaon Crisis

·

The Visayas Disaster Resource Center (VDRC) in Mandaue City, Cebu, is urgently seeking additional volunteers to assist in the preparation of family food packs (FFPs) for those affected by the unrest at Mt. Kanlaon. Tonyson Luther Lee, the Assistant Regional Director for Administration at the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), emphasized the ongoing need for support at the VDRC, which is a key hub operated by the DSWD.

Since December 9 of last year until January 2 this year, the VDRC has successfully distributed 4,200 FFPs, with 42,400 packs going to Region 6 (Western Visayas) and 11,800 to Region 7 (Central Visayas). These efforts are aimed at meeting the immediate food requirements of families displaced by the volcanic activity.

Lee highlighted that the VDRC is intensifying its efforts to increase the inventory of FFPs, necessitating a larger workforce to keep up with the production demands. Jun Eso, who oversees operations at the VDRC, stressed the importance of accelerating the production of FFPs to prepare for any potential escalation of the situation at Mt. Kanlaon.

Volunteers from both the public and private sectors are encouraged to join the effort. Those interested in volunteering can reach out to Anniebelle Diaz at 09617211127 to coordinate their participation at the VDRC Warehouse located at the Wicker and Vine compound on B. Suico St., Upper Tingub, Mandaue City.
