President Marcos Mourns Loss of Dedicated Public Servant, DA Undersecretary Savellano

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed his deep sorrow following the death of Department of Agriculture Undersecretary Deogracias Victor ‘DV’ Savellano on Tuesday morning, January 7, 2025. Savellano, who was 65, was remembered by Marcos as a true public servant and a close friend whose dedication to the people he served was unwavering.

Marcos extended his heartfelt condolences to Savellano’s family and loved ones, emphasizing the lasting impact Savellano had on the lives of many and the development he brought to Ilocos and the entire nation. Savellano’s death was announced by the National Tobacco Administration (NTA), where he served as an oversight official and a member of the governing board.

Throughout his career, Savellano held significant positions, including House deputy speaker and representative of Ilocos Sur’s first district, as well as governor of Ilocos Sur. Marcos praised Savellano’s contributions to the province, driven by his deep affection for Ilocos Sur and its residents.

At the Department of Agriculture, Savellano continued his commitment to public service, focusing on strengthening the livestock sector and supporting farmers nationwide. The DA acknowledged his efforts to enhance the livestock industry despite numerous challenges, noting his significant contributions to agricultural productivity, sustainability, and food security.

In tribute to Savellano’s legacy, the national flag at the DA’s main building in Quezon City was lowered to half-staff. The DA expressed its deepest condolences to Savellano’s family, friends, and colleagues, recognizing his tireless advocacy for the welfare of farmers and fisherfolk.
