Hawksbill Sea Turtle Rescued and Released in Dinagat Islands

In a heartwarming act of conservation, a hawksbill sea turtle was released back into the ocean in Barangay White Beach, Dinagat, Dinagat Islands on Monday, January 6, 2025. The turtle’s release came shortly after it was discovered and rescued by a local resident, Ronel Geraldino. Geraldino promptly notified the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the provincial government about his find. Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. personally visited the site with DENR personnel to evaluate the turtle’s health. Following a thorough assessment, the DENR confirmed the turtle was in good condition and proceeded with its release into the sea. Governor Demerey praised Geraldino for his quick action and emphasized the importance of protecting marine life, stating, ‘Our marine resources are vital to our communities in Dinagat Islands. It is our duty to safeguard them for the future.’ He also urged the community to collaborate in preserving the marine ecosystem.
