In a significant move to combat hunger, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has successfully rolled out its Walang Gutom: Food Stamp Program in Camarines Sur, benefiting over 600 households. On January 3, 2025, a total of 606 families from Nabua town redeemed food credits worth PHP3,000 each through electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards. This initiative, aimed at bridging the gap for food-insecure families, was highlighted by DSWD-5 Regional Director Norman Laurio as a crucial step in ensuring aid reaches those in dire need. The program not only provides immediate relief but also focuses on sustainable support by distributing food credits across three essential food groups: carbohydrates (50 percent), protein (30 percent), and fiber-rich foods (20 percent). Laurio emphasized that the Walang Gutom Program is designed to have a long-term impact, strengthening communities and paving the way for a future free from hunger. The DSWD continues its efforts to expand the program to neighboring towns within Camarines Sur, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to alleviating poverty and hunger in the Bicol region.
