42 Workers Awarded P8.2 Million Through DOLE’s Intervention in Bicol

·

In a significant victory for labor rights, 42 workers in Naga City have been awarded a total of PHP8.2 million following a labor dispute. The Department of Labor and Employment in Bicol (DOLE-5) played a pivotal role by issuing a compliance order that addressed the grievances of the workers. Imelda Gatinao, the regional director of DOLE-5, announced the successful resolution of the case, which stemmed from a labor inspection revealing severe underpayment of wages and other benefits at a local business. The workers received their monetary awards in December 2024, marking a significant milestone in their struggle for fair compensation. Gatinao encouraged other workers facing similar issues to seek assistance from DOLE, emphasizing the department’s commitment to supporting labor rights. The workers expressed their gratitude towards DOLE for their relentless efforts in resolving the case, with one worker, Agne, sharing her surprise and relief at receiving the judgment award, having previously doubted a favorable outcome.
