The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) announced on Monday that the combined efforts of the national and local governments have provided over PHP161.8 million in aid to families impacted by the recent eruption of Mt. Kanlaon. According to the NDRRMC’s situation report, PHP52.29 million was allocated to Western Visayas, while PHP109.53 million was directed to Central Visayas. The relief efforts included the distribution of family food packs, hygiene kits, sleeping kits, modular tents, waterproof covers known as ‘sakoline’, laminated sacks, generator sets, and monetary support. In total, 7,490 families in Western Visayas and 2,466 families in Central Visayas received assistance. Currently, the eruption has affected 12,226 families, totaling 46,787 individuals across 26 villages in the two regions. Out of these, 4,128 families, comprising 13,454 people, are currently housed in 34 evacuation centers, while 2,351 families, or 7,458 individuals, are receiving aid outside these facilities.
