In a significant drug bust, authorities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City discovered and confiscated shabu valued at approximately PHP72 million. The seizure occurred at Terminal 3, where an abandoned piece of luggage was found to contain the illegal substance. The operation was carried out by the NAIA-Inter Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (IADITG) on Monday afternoon in the Custom Exclusion Room of the international arrivals area. The luggage, which had arrived from Johannesburg, South Africa, was the source of the contraband. The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has taken custody of the drugs and will conduct further investigations to identify and prosecute both the sender and the intended recipients. Those implicated in this drug trafficking attempt will be charged under Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, as well as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
