The Philippine National Police (PNP) has announced heightened security measures for the upcoming Feast of Jesus Nazareno on January 9, as stated by PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil on Sunday. The PNP is taking comprehensive steps to ensure the safety and tranquility of the event, which is a significant religious celebration.
Marbil emphasized that the PNP has been working closely with local government units, religious organizations, and other relevant agencies to prepare for the feast. A large number of police officers will be stationed along the procession route, in crowded areas, and at key entry and exit points to manage the flow of attendees and maintain order.
Specialized units trained in managing large crowds will be deployed to assist in keeping the event orderly. Additionally, the PNP Intelligence Group and the Anti-Cybercrime Group will be vigilant in monitoring any potential threats, whether they be physical or digital.
To handle any emergencies, medical teams and rapid-response units will be positioned strategically throughout the event area. Traffic control will be managed by the Highway Patrol Group and local law enforcement to ensure minimal disruption to the procession and surrounding areas.
Gen. Marbil expressed the PNP’s commitment to protecting all participants, stating, “Traslacion is a deep expression of faith and devotion. We are fully dedicated to ensuring the safety and order during this holy event.” He also encouraged attendees to adhere to security protocols and to refrain from carrying prohibited items like knives, backpacks, or other dangerous objects to ease security checks.
Marbil further urged the public to cooperate with security efforts, report any suspicious behavior, and prioritize their safety, noting that public vigilance is crucial for the event’s success.
The theme for Nazareno 2025, “Mas mabuti ang pagsunod kaysa paghahandog sa mga umaasa kay Jesus” (1 Samuel 15:22), underscores the importance of obedience over sacrifice. Key events include the midnight Fiesta Mass and the grand Traslacion, where the revered image of Jesus Nazareno is moved from Rizal Park’s Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church.
