President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has announced that January 9, 2025, will be a special non-working holiday in Manila to celebrate the Feast of the Black Nazarene. This decision was formalized in Proclamation 766, which was signed on a recent Friday. The proclamation highlights that the feast, set for Thursday, January 9, 2025, is expected to draw millions of devotees to the Quiapo Church and throughout Manila. The city requested this holiday to manage the large crowds and ensure smooth traffic flow during the celebrations. The traditional Traslacion procession, which marks the event, will follow its usual route starting from the Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park and ending at the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno, also known as Quiapo Church, along Quezon Boulevard. Security for the event will be robust, with the National Capital Region Police Office deploying over 14,000 officers. This includes 12,168 officers dedicated to securing the area and route, and an additional 2,306 personnel as a support force. The Armed Forces of the Philippines will also contribute units to assist the Philippine National Police in maintaining safety during the Traslacion.
