In 2024, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Manila reported a significant increase in traffic enforcement, with 639,323 motorists apprehended and 29,709 vehicles impounded. LTO Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II highlighted a 20.75% rise in apprehensions compared to the previous year, attributing this to enhanced enforcement of road safety regulations and greater visibility of LTO, Philippine National Police, and local government enforcers. Mendoza praised the dedication of enforcers who worked tirelessly, including night shifts, to uphold traffic laws. The region of Calabarzon saw the highest number of apprehensions, with a 144.11% increase, totaling 109,159 cases. The LTO’s efforts also targeted unauthorized vehicles, overloaded trucks, and those with worn-out tires. The number of impounded vehicles increased by 21.93% from 24,366 in 2023. Mendoza emphasized that these intensified operations are part of a broader governmental initiative to enhance road safety, warning motorists that enforcement efforts would only grow stronger to ensure compliance with traffic laws.
