Bureau of Corrections Seeks External Investigation into Bilibid Prison Stabbing

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has reached out to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to delve into a deadly stabbing incident at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa. The attack, which occurred on Thursday morning, resulted in the death of inmate Ricardo Peralta and injuries to two others, identified as Reginal Lacuerta and Bert Cupada. In his correspondence with NBI Director Jaime Santiago and PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil, BuCor Officer-in-Charge Assistant Secretary Al Perreras emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to clarify the circumstances, ensure transparency, and pinpoint responsibility. Four inmates suspected of involvement in the stabbing are currently under investigation. Additionally, Perreras has instructed Acting NBP Superintendent C/Supt. Roger Boncales to provide a detailed report on the incident and to assist fully with the investigations led by the NBI and PNP. The body of Peralta was collected by his partner, Lalune Gabriel, on Thursday night, while the injured inmates were treated at Ospital ng Muntinlupa.
