UNDP and DOE to Enhance Medical Infrastructure in Lanao del Sur

·

In a significant move to bolster healthcare infrastructure, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Department of Energy (DOE) have announced plans to upgrade medical facilities in Lanao del Sur. The initiative is part of the ongoing Development for Renewable Energy Applications Mainstreaming and Market Sustainability (Dreams) Project, which is set to commence construction in the first quarter of 2025.

The provincial government of Lanao del Sur, led by Governor Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr., has been actively involved in various development initiatives with UNDP Philippines. These efforts span across sectors such as women’s empowerment, peace and security, and renewable energy. Governor Adiong’s commitment extends beyond the Dreams Project, as he has also played a key role in the rehabilitation and economic recovery of Marawi City, alongside institutional development efforts.

A meeting was held at the Provincial Engineer’s Office on Thursday, January 2, 2025, where members of the Dreams Core Group convened to discuss the project’s implementation. The DOE, through its Renewable Energy Management Bureau, is spearheading this five-year project in collaboration with the Global Environment Facility and UNDP. The initiative aims to support local government units and other stakeholders in boosting renewable energy investments at the grassroots level.
