Philippine Ports Authority Braces for Over 600,000 Travelers Post-Holiday

·

MANILA – The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) anticipates a surge of over 600,000 passengers across its ports nationwide from Friday to Sunday, as people return home after the holiday season. PPA General Manager Jay Santiago announced on Thursday that the ports are fully prepared for the expected increase in passenger traffic, emphasizing that stringent security measures will be in place to safeguard maritime travelers.

Santiago urged travelers to make their bookings in advance to steer clear of long queues at ticket counters. He attributed the expected rise in passenger numbers to the relatively low travel volume during the Undas period. ‘We are expecting a significant crowd, and it’s necessary to increase the frequency of boat trips,’ Santiago explained.

To manage the influx, all PPA ports are on high alert, with approximately 3,000 security personnel and additional support staff deployed throughout the country. Santiago highlighted the presence of Malasakit Helpdesks at ports, which are set up to offer immediate assistance to passengers in need. Additionally, K-9 units will be patrolling, and CCTV surveillance will operate around the clock.

Santiago also reminded travelers of the ban on carrying prohibited items into ports, including flammable substances, various types of knives, lighters, and other dangerous weapons.
