MANILA – After being closed due to a fire on New Year’s Day, Kennon Road has been reopened to light vehicles, according to a Thursday announcement from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). The DPWH-Cordillera confirmed that as of 9 p.m. on January 1, 2025, the road was cleared of debris from the fire at Camp 6, Tuba, Benguet, allowing light vehicles to resume travel. Heavy vehicles, however, are directed to use alternative routes such as Marcos Highway and the Asin-Nangalisan-San Pascual-La Union Boundary Road. The fire, which led to the temporary closure, tragically resulted in one fatality and the destruction of approximately 26 houses and a church. Kennon Road serves as a vital link to Baguio City and other regions.
