Senator Risa Hontiveros has raised serious concerns about alleged attempts by some Bureau of Immigration officials to secure bail for Tony Yang, the older brother of former president Rodrigo Duterte’s economic adviser, Michael Yang. Tony Yang, who has been hospitalized due to a lung condition, is accused of exploiting Philippine policies for personal gain. Hontiveros questioned the integrity of the justice system, citing the ease with which dismissed Bamban mayor Alice Guo managed to evade authorities. She stressed that Tony Yang, who allegedly profited by falsely claiming Filipino citizenship alongside his brother, should remain detained. Despite needing medical attention, Hontiveros argued that Yang should stay in government custody. She also highlighted that Yang is wanted in China and urged the Anti-Money Laundering Council to hasten its probe into his alleged money laundering activities. Currently, Yang is held by the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission and faces charges including falsifying documents, perjury, and violations of the Anti-Alias Law. Additionally, he has been connected to an illegal online gaming operation purportedly owned by Guo.
