The Black Nazarene’s annual Thanksgiving procession, known as the ‘Walk of Thanksgiving,’ will take place on New Year’s Eve within the vicinity of Quiapo Church in Manila. This event, scheduled for December 31, marks one of the three times annually when the revered image of the Black Nazarene is taken outside the church. Alex Irasga, the technical adviser for the Jesus Nazareno Fiesta 2025 at Quiapo Church, explained that the procession is a year-end tradition held from midnight of December 30 into December 31, serving as a gesture of gratitude for the blessings received by Filipinos and devotees throughout the year. In addition to the New Year’s Eve event, the image is also brought out during Good Friday and the annual feast on January 9. Unlike the Traslacion, the procession from Quirino Grandstand to the minor basilica, the New Year’s Eve procession will not involve devotees pulling ropes; instead, the image will be carried or placed on a truck. Members of the Hijos de Nazareno will ensure the safety of the image and prevent people from climbing onto the truck to touch it. Irasga encouraged the public and devotees to line the streets along the procession route, which is expected to last between two and three hours.
