Quiapo Church Hosts Annual Thanksgiving Procession on New Year’s Eve

·

MANILA – The Black Nazarene’s annual Thanksgiving procession, known as the ‘Walk of Thanksgiving,’ will take place on New Year’s Eve, marking one of the three times the revered image leaves Quiapo Church. Alex Irasga, the technical adviser for the Jesus Nazareno Fiesta 2025 at Quiapo Church, announced that the procession will occur within the church’s vicinity. This year-end event, traditionally held from midnight on December 30th into December 31st, serves as a moment for devotees to express gratitude for the blessings received throughout the year. In addition to the New Year’s Eve procession, the image of the Black Jesus Christ is also taken out of the minor basilica during Good Friday and the annual feast on January 9th. Unlike the Traslacion, where the image is pulled by ropes from Quirino Grandstand to the basilica, the New Year’s Eve procession will not involve devotees pulling ropes; instead, the image will be carried or placed on a truck. Members of the Hijos de Nazareno will ensure the image’s safety and prevent people from climbing onto the truck to touch it. Irasga encouraged devotees to line the streets along the procession route, which is expected to last between two to three hours.
