The House of Representatives has expressed deep sorrow following the death of Soraya Alonto Adiong, the former governor of Lanao del Sur, who passed away on Friday. Adiong, who would have celebrated her 81st birthday on January 7, 2025, was remembered for her significant contributions during her tenure as governor from 2016 to 2019.

During the challenging times of the Marawi Siege in 2017, Adiong played a crucial role in collaborating with military and national agencies to protect lives and foster resilience in the province. Her efforts during this period were highlighted in a statement mourning her loss.

Adiong’s legacy is carried on by her children, including Lanao del Sur 1st District Representative Zia Alonto Adiong and the current Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr.

House Speaker Martin Romualdez praised Adiong as a dedicated matriarch and an exceptional leader, noting her commitment and bravery had a profound impact on her community. He emphasized her hands-on approach in governance, which ensured that the needs and voices of the people were always addressed.

In a joint statement, House leaders described Adiong as a nurturing figure to Lanao del Sur, whose compassion and strength were instrumental in saving lives and setting the stage for the province’s recovery.
