In a sweeping operation across Negros Oriental, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) have intensified their efforts to curb the sale of illegal fireworks as New Year’s Eve approaches. On Friday, December 27, 2024, authorities reported the seizure of banned pyrotechnics in the towns of Manjuyod and Vallehermoso. The confiscated items included a box containing 35 Poppop firecrackers in Manjuyod, and in Vallehermoso, 300 Five Star and 10 Super Candle Bomb fireworks were taken. Lt. Stephen Polinar of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) emphasized that ongoing patrols are in place to ensure that vendors adhere to designated firecracker zones. Violators caught selling outside these zones will have their products seized. The collected illegal fireworks are scheduled for destruction at the NOPPO headquarters on December 31. The list of prohibited fireworks includes watusi, piccolo, pla-pla, Hello Columbia, Goodbye Napoles, Super Yolanda, giant bawang, giant whistle bombs, pillbox, boga, and large-sized judas belts.
